Turtle Lab is a not-for-profit theatre laboratory based in Melbourne, created by Paola Unger, Sapidah Kian and Nadia Townsend.
We come from very different cultural and artistic backgrounds but share a common passion for making theatre and investigating creative process.
Turtle Lab offers an opportunity for artists to question and explore their creative practice. Really, what we are trying to do is re-define our theatrical language, push the boundaries of content, sometimes move theatre out of the theatre, and ultimately, to take responsibility for the stories we tell.
In 2011 we have our inaugural season at The Melbourne Fringe Festival, with the Australian premiere of A Second Of Pleasure by Neil Labute directed by Paola Unger, and Ulrike Meinhof Sings directed by Sapidah Kian and performed by Nadia Townsend.
In February 2012, we will present the Australian premiere of The Drowning Girls by Daniela Vlaskalic directed by Paola Unger at Northcote Town Hall.
